ANNIE’S DANCE HALL
“ANNIE’S DANCE HALL”
Acrylic and Mixed Medium on Canvas
20” X 24” / 50cm X 60cm
My inspiration for the artwork … put on your red shoes and let’s dance at ANNIE’S DANCE HALL, aka, ANNIE’S JUKE JOINT. My friend told me that while visiting in South Carolina, she went dancing in a “juke joint.” I had never heard this expression in describing a dance hall, but discovered they exist in the South. I recall dance halls with red velvet curtains, violet colored walls, juke boxes, ticket takers, black and white tiled dance floor and shinny, silver revolving balls that dropped from the ceilings reflecting magical lighting around the room. You could dance the night away and be served food and drinks. My grandmother in her youth played piano in a dance hall … artwork is titled in her memory.
The artwork has bold, vivid colors of red, violet, yellow, blue. A perfect decorative artwork to hang on the walls of your home or office!
